Description: Early West Australian Money Purse. 1890's purse reputedly made by Mr Willie Johan from the teat of a goat slaughtered by Afghan cameleers camped at his goldfields workshop property. Sold with a hand written description provided by a descendant of the maker, the piece having been retained by the family for some 100 years. An interesting early piece of Westraliana.

Description: Borneo Baby Carrier Basket. Bahaus tribespeople, Kalamantan. Beadwork and weaving are popular past-times amongst the Bahaus and the Kenjas of Borneo. In this type of work, attention is paid not merely to patterns and style, but also to optimal arrangement of colours. This type of work, which is always performed by females, is carried out after wooden patterns carved by the men. Beadwork and weaving embellish the baby carrying baskets, the lids of baskets, the caps worn by men and women, the headbands and the hems of skirts.
