Description: Early French Market Scale. Rare mid-19th Century 30kg capacity butcher's scale of Roberval type used in the market centre of Paris known as Les Halles. The ornate cast iron sides with relief decoration featuring bovine head terminals and the deities Asclepius and Aequitas as well as the polychrome armorial crest of Les Halles, Paris with Latin inscription Fluctuat Nec Mercitur. c 1880.

Description: Sovereign/Half Sovereign Rocker Balance Coin Scale. Victorian era. Of brass construction for the detection of counterfeit gold coin. The receptacles marked sovereign and half sovereign were used to check the exact diameter and weight of the respective coins, while the slots were used to check the thickness.

Description: Roman Bronze Suspension Weight. 1st-4th Century AD. Superb pendulous form with eight faces tapering to a point at both ends and suspended at the top with a four faced ring and wire roping. Probably used as either a plumb bob or more likely, as the weight forming part of a distaff and spindle apparatus used to vertically spin yarn.
